Leo Jansen, Professor Emeritus of the Technological University of Delft, talked with GUNI about the importance to integrate the concept of sustainability transversally into higher education institutions. To successfully implement sustainability issues, one needs a transdisciplinary approach, which is currently not being fostered by higher education institutions.

Interview with Peter Taylor

Peter Taylor, research fellow and leader of the Participation, Power and Social Change Team of the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex), talked about the third volume of GUNI’s report Higher Education in the World, of which he is guest editor. He says that in order to be able to face the complex challenges of today’s world, higher education should build curricula on issues of social change and human and social development.

He participated in the roundtable on Preparing the new generation – the educative purpose and higher education curricula for human and social development of the 4th International Barcelona Conference on Higher Education "Higher Education: New Challenges and Emerging Roles for Human and Social Development" held last April.

Interview with Rajesh Tandon

The President of the Society for Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA), Rajesh Tandon, talked with GUNI about the social role of universities, and about why a partnership is needed between universities and civil society actors. Dr. Tandon considers that universities must change their teaching, research and service functions and that it is important to reinforce the institutionalization of partnerships between universities and the civil society.
