The lecture discusses how social projects, spaces, and realities shape three contexts critical to understanding urban design in China: the changing modes of spatial governmentally, the history of collective development models in relation to current community agendas, and the socio-spatial changes in urban and rural developments. An urban and social analysis of past and present community developments in China will look at the models emerging with national collectivisation in the 1950s and contemporary urban projects.

Sam Jacoby is a chartered architect with a Diploma from the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) and a doctorate from the Technische Universität Berlin. He is currently the Research Leader of the School of Architecture at the Royal College of Art and Director of the MPhil in Architecture and Urban Design: Projective Cities at the AA. Jacoby's practice-led research and research-based teaching focuses on spatial design research.He is author of Drawing Architecture and the Urban (2016) and co-editor of Typological Formations: Renewable Building Types and the City (2007). He guest-edited the special journal issues 'Collective Forms in China: AContemporary Review' for New Architecture (2018), 'Type versus Typology' for The Journal of Architecture (2015), 'New Design Research in Architecture and Urban Design' for Urban Flux (2015), and 'Typological Urbanism: Projective Cities' for Architectural Design (2011).

El Programa Innova ha celebrat el seu 20è aniversari, un programa centrat a impulsar la cultura de la innovació i l’esperit emprenedor en la comunitat universitària. Al llarg d’aquests anys, s’han creat més de 300 empreses, més de 500 patents sol·licitades i més de 200 tecnologies llicenciades, tot amb el coneixement i la base tecnològica de la UPC.

Anshuman Bhadauria chose the UPC to broaden his education and is taking the master’s degree in Numerical Methods in Engineering. Zhang Fengbo is a student at Tongji University (China) and is taking a double degree that includes the master’s degree in Civil Engineering. She now has the opportunity to get to know the research that is carried out in the University’s laboratories and research centres. Javier Esteban Verde is a student on the master's degree in Aerospace Science and Technology and he explains what brought him here from Argentina. Stephen Bates is an architect at the London practice Sergison Bates Architects and was at the UPC for a visiting studio with architecture students.

Maria Pau Ginebra is a full professor and the director of the Biomaterials, Biomechanics and Tissue Engineering Group and the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy. Mateo Valero has been full professor since 1983 and teaches at the Department of Computer Architecture. In 2004, he became the director of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS).

These are the views of six people who have been linked, in one way or another, with the University and who have told us about their experience. Through them, we invite you to get to the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, an institution that has set itself the challenge of being international in all areas and at all levels. To this end it has drawn up and implemented the new Internationalisation Plan, to help the University to open itself up to the world.
